19, 2002 After a few nail-biting weeks since Sebring, it is announced that Chad will be piloting the Lola/Mg EX257 675 Prototype for Knighthawk Racing (www.Knighthawkracing.com) at the Sears Point ALMS race in May. The MG had an impressive first race on US soil at Sebring where it qualified 3rd behind the two factory Audi R8 cars, and ahead of the other 900 class prototypes of Cadillac and Panoz. Chad has these comments: "This is truly a great opportunity for me, I have said that a few times over the past three or four months, but this time I am truly truly anxious. Ever since our successful outing together at Daytona in February, I have been hoping I would get to work with the Knighthawk affiliation, and also Mike Johnson's crew again. Those individuals of those teams have shown me great support, and it will be nice to have a team behind me that has confidence in my abilities, and me in theirs. This is one of the most sought after driving positions in the series, I'm glad to be in it, and I hope Steve and Mel are as excited to have me." At Daytona Chad was teamed with Mel Hawkins and Steve Knight when they produced a 6th overall and 2nd in class at Chad's first ever sportscar race. "Steve (Knight) and Mel (Hawkins) have shown me support and confidence it is hard to find. This package presents me with the ability to bring something back to them, 675 Championship points. It is a very very fast and capable car, so I will have my hands full, but as I told them...I want to win races so I will do whatever I can to run clean and bring home a podium." The Knighthawk effort is run in conjunction with Archangel Motorsport's squad out of Braselton Georgia. Archangel prepared the car that Chad ran at Daytona. "I can't wait to work with the Archangel guys again also. I have made some good friends with the team as a whole, and I love the entertainment factor of the whole group. Mike Johnson has been supportive of me just like Steve and Mel, so I hope we can keep up our relationships." The Sears Point race is on the weekend of May 17th. Chad hasn't seen the track since the Star Mazda race there last year, but is anxious to get back out to the west coast. "Wow, Sears Point in a Prototype, it will be like a roller coaster....what a blast. I just can't wait. I hope to see everyone there, hopefully from the top of the podium with Knighthawk." Stay Tuned for a press release shortly regarding Chad's sponsors for the event. |
